10. Tata Steel Corporation - 25.11 million tons
Tata Steel is a subsidiary of the Tata Group. Tata Steel was founded in 1907 and has a revenue of 30% in 2017. The company operates in India and employs approximately 75,000 people on five continents. As of the summer of 2018, Tata Steel is the largest steel producer in India.

9. Shougang Group - 27.63 million tons
Headquartered in Beijing, Shougang Group was founded in 1919 and is still the largest competitor in the Chinese steel market, even operating iron ore in Peru (the only iron ore in the country). They are major shareholders of the Beijing government and may not like the loss of revenue in 2017 - 13.5%. Despite the decline in revenue, the group still achieved a profit of $3.3 billion and employed more than 139,000 people.

8. Japan JFE Corporation - 30.15 million tons
JFE Holdings Inc. (TYO) is the parent company of JFE Steel, one of the world's largest integrated steel producers. Due to the merger of NKK and Kawasaki Steel, JFE Steel operated two major steel mills in Japan in 2002, which is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. They produce a wide range of steel products, from steel and stainless steel to traditional products such as iron powder.

7. Angang Steel - 35.76 million tons
Angang Steel Co., Ltd. (Angang) is the second largest state-owned steel producer in China. Founded in 1997, the company is headquartered in Anshan, northeast China, with revenues of $26.21 billion in 2017. Although impressive, Angang’s profits fell sharply, falling by $1.297 billion in the same year.

6. Jiangsu Shagang Group - 38.35 million tons

Founded in 1975, Shagang Group controls $26 billion in assets, and the number in the 2017 Forbes Global 500 list is 364. The Shagang Group employs more than 30,000 people and produces almost as much iron as steel. The group's revenue in 2017 was $32.56 billion, and its profit increased by 201% from last year.

5. Pohang Steel Corporation - 42.19 MMT
Posco Steel Corporation (POSCO) was established in 1968 to operate two integrated steel plants in Korea and a joint venture with the US Steel Corporation (USS-POSCO) in California. The main steels include hot rolled steel, steel, wire, cold rolled steel, electrical steel and stainless steel. In 2017, POSCO's revenue was $53.6 billion, an increase of 14.3% over 2016.

4. Hegang Group Co., Ltd. - 45.56 million tons
Hegang Group Co., Ltd. is involved in business outside of steel production and participates in global marketing and technology research and development. The steel production division of the Hegang Group employed more than 120,000 employees in 2017 and produced more than 200 steel products as import substitutes. In 2017, MIT identified one of the plants as the cleanest steel mill in the world.

3. Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Gold - 47.36 million tons
Nippon Steel & Sumimoto Metal (formerly British Steel before the high-profile merger in 2012) is Japan's largest steel producer, producing about 48 million tons of crude steel in 2017. Nippon Steel has more than 50,000 employees and is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In 2012, the newly established company had nearly 61,000 employees.

2. China Baowu Iron and Steel Group - 65.39 million tons
China Baosteel Group is the largest Chinese producer on the list, with nearly 20 million tons more than the third largest producer. Originally a smaller producer, the merger with Wuhan Iron & Steel in 2016 almost doubled the production of the state-owned production giant.

ArcelorMittal (BME) is the world's largest steel producer in 2017, accounting for more than 6% of global crude steel production. Headquartered in Luxembourg, ArcelorMittal operates in more than 60 countries and has a total revenue of more than $68 billion in 2017.
