Factors affecting tundish life

1. Quality of refractory materials:

(1) The key position is the direct contact between the working layer and the molten steel. Working layer masonry materials are semi-siliceous, high alumina, zircon or siliceous, magnesia, magnesia olivine insulation board; Or with magnesium, magnesium chrome and magnesium calcium coating or with castables.

(2) The water socket brick of tundish is inlaid at the bottom, which belongs to the weak part of tundish. High aluminum high temperature resistant material is usually used.

(3) The working layer at the bottom of tunic is easily damaged by the impact of molten steel directly, which requires corrosion resistance and wear resistance. High-strength tar magnesium brick, high-aluminum brick and aluminum-chromium brick are mainly used. The impact zone of molten steel also has zircon brick.

(4) The cover of the middle bag is covered on the tundish to keep warm and prevent the splash of molten steel. Usually, clay or high aluminum refractory castable material is used as the cover.


2. Production organization and operation level:

(1) The water level of the intermediate steel should be kept stable or not fluctuate much during the production process; The production organization requires that the production of converter and continuous casting should be matched normally, and the harm of the tundish lining caused by the excessive fluctuation of the liquid level of the molten steel caused by the delay of continuous casting should be avoided.

(2) The temperature of molten steel to the continuous casting platform should be reasonable to avoid excessive overheating of molten steel to scour the tundish lining; The harm to the lining of tundish should be avoided because the temperature of molten steel is too low.

(3) Tundish structure: continuous casting tundish adopts retaining wall, retaining dam and turbulence controller, which not only makes the flow of molten steel in tundish reasonable, but also facilitates the floating of non-metallic inclusions in molten steel and improves the quality of molten steel. On the other hand, it also prods the service life of the tundish.
