Brief Introduction of BOF refractory materials
BOF is the main steelmaking method at present, about 65% steel plants are using BOF for steel making. 

High temperature slag erosion is the main cause of damage of BOF lining. However, the bosh is the weak link of converter, among which the refractory materials are seriously damaged, including the charging side, slag line and trunnion. 

The charging side is not only eroded and scoured by molten steel and slag, but also directly impacted and eroded by scrap steel and molten iron. The combined effect of slag erosion and impact makes the damage of refractory lining more severe. Generally, products with high slag resistance and high temperature strength are used, such as high-purity magnesia dolomite brick, various high-quality magnesia bricks, etc., while less magnesia carbon brick is used. 

Slag corrosion is the main part of slag line, which is relatively light at the tapping side, while the damage at the slag discharging side is relatively heavy. Therefore, refractory materials are required to have good slag resistance. At present, high-quality MgO-C brick and mgo-cao-c brick are mostly used. 

In addition to other causes of damage, the trunnion part is also affected by serious mechanical stress. When the part has less slag discharge, the refractory has no protection, and the carbon containing lining is easy to be oxidized. At present, high strength MgO-C brick is widely used in this part.
