The lining of the induction furnace will always be damaged due to long-term use. So how to repair it at this time? Today we will take you to understand:
1. Repair of cracks or damage at the joint between the taphole refractory material and the furnace wall. Unshaped refractory materials can be pushed and repaired. When the repair scale is large, charcoal should be used for drying.
2. The repair of side wall cracks is general. Cracks below 1 mm do not need to be repaired and can continue to be used. Cracks above 1 mm, especially in the horizontal direction, must be repaired. The furnace-building refractory materials that can be added with boric acid and mixed evenly can be screened and filled with iron wire and other tools for the long-term medium frequency furnace. And smooth the filled surface with wet mixed sand added with water glass.
3. To repair side wall damage or small-scale corrosion, remove slag and residual iron and then apply water glass. Then beat and repair with mixed refractory materials adding 5%-6% water glass, or repair with A1 unshaped refractory materials. When the corrosion scale is slightly larger, a mold will be used to repair it.
4. Repair of burnt or damaged bottom and side wall slopes. The bottom of the furnace can be repaired by adding the same amount of boric acid as the newly built furnace and mixing it evenly with the induction furnace refractory material for tamping. To repair the inclined part of the side wall, a mold with an outer diameter 5060mm smaller than the furnace diameter and a height about 100 mm higher than the damaged part needs to be installed. Use a vibrator to tamp, and the thickness of each layer is 2030mm. After tamping one layer and shaving, tamp another layer until it is 10mm higher than the mold, and then trim the upper plane to a certain slope.
More details about neutral ramming mass
Neutral ramming masses are a unique, chemically neutral foundry solution that form joint-less linings. The in-situ spinels synthesise at high temperatures inside the refractory lining, creating a unique 3-layer structure.
Ramming mass is a pre-blended Dry vibratables refractory made from a selected mix of SILICA GRAINS. This blend of grains along with a binder, BORIC ACID forms the working lining in an Induction furnace used for melting steel.
There are three types of ramming masses namely (i) acidic, (ii) basic, and (iii) neutral. The most commonly used lining material for an induction furnace is acidic lining.
Alumina (Al2O3) is the most fashionable material for producing neutral linings of induction furnaces used in steel industry. This type of lining has very high melting temperature, high strength, high hardness, and relatively high resistance to slag attack.
